Boston Seaport Wedding – Deidra and Mike

Deidra and Mike’s Boston Seaport wedding was a dream to photograph! The Boston skyline was in the background of almost every shot and it was the most gorgeous fall day! Since Boston is home for the couple and their dog, choosing the Seaport location for their wedding was perfect.

Like many other couples, Deidra and Mike’s wedding plans were affected by the pandemic. They had to reschedule their wedding four different times, so the wedding was highly anticipated by the couple and their guests! When looking for a photographer, Deidra’s mom suggested they reach out to me. I mentored and worked with the bride’s mom years ago in photography so I was honored when she called me to photograph their wedding! She said they all did a happy dance when they found out I was available.

This long-awaited day was emotional for Deidra’s family. Deidra had lost her father a few years ago and his presence was obviously missed deeply. Despite this hardship, you could see that the bride and her mom, two sisters, and brother were all brought even closer together. Deidra and Mike made sure to honor his memory on their special day and also included her mom and siblings in very special ways.

On the afternoon of the wedding, I met the bride and her wedding party at the Intercontinental Hotel for getting ready photos. The Intercontinental is one of those Boston waterfront wedding hotels that is so perfectly located for your outdoor summer ceremony.  All the girls had their hair and makeup done beautifully. They chatted excitedly about the day ahead in their matching silk robes while we took photos.  I’m always looking for beautiful light and the Intercontinental bridal suite didn’t disappoint.  The sunlight coming into the hotel room was stunning for the bride’s portraits, and photos with her girls.

As the bride, her girls and her mom walked to the trolley. I ended up capturing one of my favorite photos – the bride and her mom walking in front of a fitness quote behind them. The quote “passion led you here” – it fit so well for the wedding day.

The ceremony was held outside in the seaport with guests standing on the steps of a gorgeous staircase where they had an amazing view of the ceremony below them. Mike and Deidra asked Deidra’s uncle to marry them, which was very special. I had an awesome view of the bridal party approaching the ceremony site, and was able to photograph them from afar which added to the drama of the city-scape in the background.   It also added to the anticipation and excitement of the moment. Mike looked thrilled to finally see Deidra!

The bride’s veil was blowing wildly in the ocean breeze so I motioned to the bridesmaids to put two bouquets on it to hold it down and it worked perfectly! At the end of the ceremony, the groom did a traditional breaking of the glass to honor his jewish religion.

We couldn’t have had more fun taking all kinds of portraits of the bridal party and this newly married couple surrounded by the gorgeous city and ocean views. There was even a special appearance by their dog!

The reception was at a beautiful and elegant restaurant, Davio’s Seaport.  It was a unique and special venue that allowed guests to mingle, socialize, and have fun together.  The cocktail hour was casual elegance and the restaurant had a classy atmosphere that was just what the couple was looking for. There were stunning city views to watch the sunset and see the city lights at night. To start off the reception the bride’s sisters, brother, and mom all gave touching and heartfelt speeches. It was clear how happy everyone was to celebrate the marriage and love of Deidra and Mike!

This wedding was certainly worth the wait. Deidra and Mike were the sweetest couple! I LOVE photographing seacoast weddings, so having the opportunity to photograph on the Boston seacoast was this NH Wedding Photographer’s Dream-Day! Best wishes to the happy couple!
